January 14, 2010 Dearly beloved friends: It was about 3:00 this morning when I woke up with a really heavy heart. It was as if the horrible pictures I have been watching these last two days were playing over and over before my eyes. I became so overwhelmed with the incredible loss of lives and the graphic physical and emotional suffering of the people of Haiti. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your calls and emails expressing your eager desire to help. You confirm for me the words of Marcus Aurelius, that "human beings were made to help others." We have all been waiting anxiously to hear how our clinic and school, and their staffs, have fared. Some of our children live in the heart of the worst damage. We are worrying, we are crying, we are praying. Yet we know that God is able to use us to reach out to those who are suffering. If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like noonday.
This year, FLM-HAITI celebrates 25 years of service in Health and Education to the Haitian people. We are thankful to God for his faithfulness and to all our friends in Pittsburgh and throughout the nation who have consistently supported the effort of the ministry over the years. FLM-HAITI is thriving. This is the clear result of what can happen when one DARES TO DREAM. With God’s unchanging help and your ongoing support, FLM-HAITI will continue to provide its much needed service to the Haitian people.
